Who is
Ed?
Ed Hooks has been a professional actor and acting teacher for over thirty years, appearing on stage in New York and in hundreds of television shows.
Mr. Hooks is also a respected author, with five titles currently in print: "The Actor's Field Guide: Acting Notes on the Run", "The Ultimate Scene and Monologue Sourcebook", "Acting in the Cyber Age", "Acting for Animators" and "Acting in Animation: A Look at 12 Films."
1998, Ed was invited to teach acting to animators for the first time, at DreamWorks/PDI. Since then, he has taught internationally at most major animation and game studios, including Disney Animation, Blue Sky, Sony, Electronic Arts, Midway Games, Valve Software, BioWare, Animal Logic and Rising Sun (both in Australia). He has taught at Will Vinton Studios and Oddworld Inhabitants. He is a frequent speaker and lecturer at animation events such as SIGGRAPH, The Game Developers Conference, Animex (Teesside England), Swansea Animation Days (South Wales) and FMX (Stuttgart, Germany). He has taught at Filmakademie Baden-Wurtemberg in Stuttgart, Nanyang Polytechnic Institute in Singapore, Ringling School in Florida, the University of Ohio, Loyola Marymount University in LA, plus many more. One of his more recent trips was to Brazil, where he taught in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
At this point in time, Ed lives with his wife in Chicago, where he teaches an on-going acting class for actors. It would be safe to say that he is a pioneer in the teaching of acting theory to animators.
